A Bogie Motor is a part on Snowpiercer, providing propulsion to its cars.
Description[]
Bogie motors are small motors placed in Snowpiercer's cars below the Sub-Train. They operate on electricity generated by the Engine. On Snowpiercer each carriage is self propelled by it's own set of bogie motors, the wheels of the cars are powered, which means there is less strain on the engine and couplings as the cars are also being powered, helping the train maintain it's momentum.
When the train is going downhill, the Bogie Motors would have the ability to generate electricity via regenerative braking, which can in turn be used to recharge Snowpiercer's Battery Cars.
Throughout the Series[]
The Torretta Canyon Crisis started with a simple electrical short, causing the brakes to seize. Which overheats the Bogie Motor in Car 780. The engineers have to shut the single bogie motor off and replace it with a new one, but it swung and they dropped it and it disconnected a hydraulic wire underneath the train. Melanie then had to reconnect the line for the hydraulic system to work again.[1]
Later, after Big Alice connected to Snowpiercer, the engineers requested 3 Bogie Motors from Big Alice in a trade for fresh food every week.[2] Snowpiercer then acquired the 3 Bogie Motors in Alaska.[3]
