An EVA suit is a suit that allows the Breachmen to operate outside of Snowpiercer, or in damaged areas without heating. It consists of several pieces, including the bodysuit and removable helmet.[1]

The suit provides not only the necessary heating but also the oxygen for its users.

When showing a first person perspective of the EVA suit, for example when Melanie is wearing one, it often shows a remaining charge. Melanie has also been seen plugging her suit into an external battery in the episode, "Many Miles From Snowpiercer" and it is known that if the charge runs out she will freeze, suggesting the suit may be heated. The suit has 30 minutes of power.

The suit that Josie Wellstead gets from Big Alice is more compact and possibly more advanced than the bulky suits of Snowpiercer.

Season 3[]

In The Tortoise and the Hare, Bennett Knox collects ice samples outside of the Pirate Train before falling through a roof, requiring Josie Wellstead and Andre Layton to go to his rescue. While waiting for Josie to return for him, Layton discovers another survivor in a bunker beneath the building and nearly dies when his suit runs out of power. However, Layton manages to recharge his suit using the bunker's power supply and returns to the train with the survivor who wears her own protective suit.

In The First Blow, Josie wears her EVA suit during the showdown between the Pirate Train and Big Alice, intending to breach Big Alice's Engine and kill Wilford. Later, as Wilford's distracted, Layton uses his own suit to sneak aboard Big Alice with the help of Josie distracting Wilford and Javi opening an airlock for him, allowing Layton to take control of the trains.

In Bound by One Track, Bennett and Alex use the suits as they work on moving three disconnected Big Alice cars. Alex's hallucination of her mother also wears one of the suits.

In Setting Itself Right, when toxic volcanic gas gets into the train through a broken scrubber, Layton dons an EVA suit to help fix the problem while Asha wears her own protective suit from when Layton had found her. However, the suits prove to be too bulky to get into the narrow space containing the air intake so Asha sacrifices herself by removing it and going down unprotected to close the intake. Although Asha is successful, this proves to be fatal for her.

In A Beacon for Us All, Layton and Josie use their EVA suits during the rescue of Melanie from the Track Scaler with Josie going outside to attach Snowpiercer's crane arm to the vehicle.

In The Original Sinners, as war brews between Layton and Melanie, all of Snowpiercer's EVA suit helmets disappear, causing Melanie to comment to Wilford that it's a good thing that they have Boki who has received Wilford's cold treatment. Ruth Wardell later learns that Lights had actually stolen the helmets and had hidden them in Snowpiercer's subtrain. Layton and Josie briefly use them while exiling Wilford on the Track Scaler.
