The Machinery Section was a group of sections of the rattling ark, Snowpiercer, which helped run The Sacred Engine.

History[]

Machinery Section[]

Throughout the Film[]

During the Great Curtis Revolution, Curtis, Namgoong and Yona reach the Machinery Section. Namgoong reveals he and Yona had been collecting Kronole, an addictive drug but also a potent explosive, which he wants to use to blow the door to the outside, believing they can survive. Curtis stops them, as he wants to meet Wilford; explaining that when he was a youth, The Tail Section had resorted to cannibalism, and he had been nearly ready to eat the infant Edgar but Gilliam offered him his arm instead. Curtis wants to face Wilford to ask why he created this closed ecosystem. But then, the door to the sacred engine opens, and Wilford's assistant Claude emerges and shoots Namgoong before inviting Curits inside. As Wilford talks with Curtis in the engine, angry drug addicts catch up with Namgoong to get their kronole back and he has to fight them off. After a discovery in the engine, Curtis gives Yona matches to light the fuse for the Kronole placed on the door, while Namgoong fights and kills Franco, who was among the angry, high guests that had followed them and wanted the Kronole back. Yona then lights the fuse and runs into the engine. The explosion blows the door off, but also causes an avalanche that derails the train. The Machinery Section remained coupled behind the engine during the derailment. Shortly afterwards, Yona and Timmy get out of the wreckage using the now blown-off door.[1]

Passage Sections[]

Curtis, Namgoong and Yona walked through the passage sections on their way to the Machinery Section.[1]

"Pass 2"[]

Curtis, Namgoong and Yona walked through Pass 2 on their way to the Machinery Section.[1]

Technology[]

Machinery Section[]

The Machinery Section partially houses some of the perpetual motion technology, all working to help run the Sacred Engine.[2]

"Pass 2"[]

'Pass 2' houses a number of computers, technology and navigational equipment, locked behind gates.[2]

Interior[]

Machinery Section[]

A number of of piping and electrical components litter the walls as only a narrow catwalk connects the 2 ends of the section. Below the catwalk are engine parts with warm, yellow lights illuminating from beneath it, being the only light source for the entire section. At the front are 2 industrial doors on either side leading to the outside, as well as a big vault-like door in the middle that leads to the engine, branded with the Wilford Industries logo in gold.[2]

"Pass 2"[]

Illuminated by the computers and navigational equipment littering each side of the section, only a narrow passage corridor separates the 2 sides of the computers, both sides being locked behind metal gates. There are seating for people in-front of some computers.[2]

Exterior[]

Machinery Section[]

The exterior slightly differs from other windowless sections, having more greeble.

"Pass 2"[]

The exterior doesn't differ from other windowless sections, being largely bare.

Trivia[]

  • The "Pass 2" section could have been the inspiration for the Battery cars in the TV Series. Both cars are industrial cars with technological equipment locked behind gates on either side and are illuminated in cold, blue lighting.
