Season 3[]

In The Tortoise and the Hare, it's revealed that Martin became an inadvertent stowaway aboard the Pirate Train after falling asleep in his cabin when Andre Layton hijacked the first ten cars of Snowpiercer. During the six months stranded aboard the train, he has served as the crew's chef. He later assists Miss Audrey in trying to force Alexandra Cavill to leave Layton, Bennett Knox and Josie Wellstead behind and reconnect with the rest of the train due to his concerns about their long-term survival, but Bess Till hits him over the head with a wrench and retakes the Engine.

Martin subsequently doesn't appear again on the Pirate Train, even after the crew has to disconnect four cars, leaving it unknown if Till killed him or knocked him out.

Season 4[]

In Life Source, he appears again, confirming he survived the events on the Pirate Train.

In Last Stop, Martin is in the Market Car when Ruth Wardell, Sykes and Z-Wreck arrive looking to rally the remaining passengers into a rebellion against the International Peacekeeping Forces. Although confused at first, Martin quickly joins the rebellion after learning of the true dangers of Gemini. At one point, Martin teams up with Z-Wreck to take down an IPF soldier, earning him the other man's praise. Afterwards, Martin and the other Snowpiercer passengers decide to settle in New Eden.

Martin: "Morning!"
Melanie: "Good morning. Mr. Lam! [speaks Cantonese]"

York: "My congee was quite good! Thanks for asking!"
Martin: "Oh no. You’re not allowed to have better Cantonese than me."
Melanie: "[chuckles] Oh, I don’t."

Justice Never Boarded[]

Melanie: "So they're talking about sedition."
Martin: "Mm."
Melanie: "How did the commander respond?"
Martin: "Uh, well, he didn't agree or... or disagree. He mostly just, uh, stared at us coldly, which, I won't lie, is very effective. Don't you need to get to the trial?"

Miss Gillies: "Yes."
Martin: "...for the boys during this--this business with downtrain. Are you s-sure we still want to do this?"
Miss Gillies: "Don't worry. We're on top of it. Unless you want the Folgers to be in charge."
Martin: "To hell with that. (passes a gun)"
Miss Gillies: "And don't worry. Gavin and Murray will be fine with a little bit of tutoring."
Martin: "[exhales]"
―  Martin provides Miss Gillies and the rebels a gun.

Martin: "Ruth. Ruth, you're here!"
Ruth: "Mr. Colvin, pick up a spear. We've a rocket to stop."
Martin: "But I thought that rocket was supposed to, you know, save the world."
―  Ruth encounters a confused Martin Colvin.
Ruth: "Everyone! I met the man in charge, face to face. Asked him directly what his plans were for Snowpiercer after the rocket launch. And it turns out he's not planning on giving her back because he's not sure his experiment is gonna work. The eyes always reveal the truth, and I saw nothing but doubt in his."
Z-Wreck: "Yeah. And if he don't think it's gonna work, you really wanna bet your lives on it?"
Ruth: "This rocket will kill us all if we don't stop him. We need warriors and weapons, whatever you can find. The march downtrain begins now. Are you with me?"
Crowd: "Yeah!"
Z-Wreck: "Let's go!"
―  Ruth rallies the remaining passengers in a rebellion.
Z-Wreck: "Nice work."
Martin: "Thanks."
―  Z-Wreck and Martin work together.
Wolf: "Last stop. Stand down and I'll let you live."
Ruth: "What a coincidence. I was about to make you the same offer. This is our train."
Fighters: "Our train!"
Layton: "Sorry I'm late."
Ruth: "No worries. We are just getting started."
Layton: "Here we go."
―  Ruth, Layton and their forces face off against the final defenses in their way.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being an informant, Martin was not aware that Melanie was acting as Mr. Wilford.
  • Martin is the only accidental member of the Pirate Train's crew, the rest having either willingly joined or were taken prisoner. In his case, Martin had fallen asleep in his carriage which became a part of the Pirate Train and nobody was aware of his presence until later.
  • After the failed mutiny on the Pirate Train in The Tortoise and the Hare, it was unclear what had become of Martin as he was never seen again. However, he reappears in Season 4, confirming that he did in fact survive.
