Javi: "Alright, here we go. The front of the train's hitting the old trestle bridge."
Layton: "The what? You weren't gonna tell nobody about that?"
Javi: "I didn't wanna worry you, man."
Layton: "Thanks."
―  Javi alarms Layton with a last minute revelation in The Original Sinners.

The Trestle Bridge, also known as The Old Trestle Bridge is a trestle bridge leading to New Eden slightly off of Snowpiercers mainline route.

History[]

The trestle bridge was located along the worst stretch of tracks in the entire network,[1] in the Horn of Africa leading to the valley that would later become New Eden.

Over the years following the Freeze, the bridge degraded greatly. From both the extreme weather conditions as well as the war that preceded them.[1]

Throughout the Series[]

While traveling to New Eden, Big Alice crosses the old trestle bridge which was in poor condition and then began to break apart under the train's weight. By accelerating, Big Alice manages to reach New Eden before derailing, but only slightly, with the Engine coming to rest at a walkable tilt and the other visible cars remaining more or less upright. However, the journey also wrecks the bridge.[2]

Over the next year, the residents of New Eden rebuild the trestle bridge in the hopes of Snowpiercer's arrival. The repair work is completed just as strange events start to take place. Miss Audrey later arrives over the bridge in a Track Scaler with a warning that someone is coming, just before Liana Layton is kidnapped by soldiers from the International Peacekeeping Forces.[3]

Layton subsequently takes Big Alice's Engine, four cars and an army of volunteers after Snowpiercer, crossing back over the trestle bridge in the process.[4]

When Big Alice finally returns, Javier De La Torre is forced to have the train stop just before it can cross the trestle bridge due to concerns about booby traps on the tracks and possibly on the bridge itself. Javi, Sykes, Oz and Lights later find a bomb that explodes when Javi tries to disarm it.[5] However, Javi is far enough away that he survives with only a concussion. With the booby trap gone, Big Alice is able to cross the bridge back to New Eden.[6]

Throughout most of the Battle of New Eden, Snowpiercer sits parked on the far side of the bridge from New Eden. After Doctor Nima Rousseau and his forces secure Big Alice, Snowpiercer crosses over the bridge in reverse, jumps the track switch, and connects to Big Alice. Snowpiercer then departs back over the bridge, albeit with an army of New Eden residents aboard, and Nima attempts to detonate the bombs in the hills without any success.[7]

After the trains were retaken, they crossed back over the bridge carrying all of Snowpiercer's liberated passengers to New Eden for the very first time.[8]
